Summer Flowerfield Engagement Session . Kansas City .

Summer Engagement Session Inspiration

Summer engagement sessions are a favorite of mine! I know that fall is a fan favorite but summer is full of bright colors, late blue skies, and warmer weather. Truly superior in my humble opinion! Summertime also offers great weather, which in-turn, offers more location options. You can hit the water for a lake-side session, check out the local ice cream shop for some cute cone pictures, or frolic through a flower field—just like these two did! Engagement sessions, no matter in what season, should reflect your combined interests and love.

For these two, frolicking through a random flower field outside of Kansas City was the perfect spot for their engagement session. Being drawn to vintage photos and feelings, these two knew they wanted to keep the location simple so that all the feelings could be evoked from their reactions and how the photos displayed it.

Going into this session I knew that I wanted to play with textures, movement, and blur. The best thing about vintage photography (that this couple loves so much) is that it’s imperfect. It’s often grainy, blurry, streaked with sun flares, and slightly out-of-focus. That’s what makes it so great. I wanted to convey that sense of nostalgia by recreating those imperfections in digital and film format. The 35mm film was shot on Fuji 400, which I don’t typically shoot with. It gives the colors more of a blue/green hue, but that was perfect for the overcast day we had. I kept the colors on my digital camera true to life and full of color, just like summertime.
